Used 1975 Chevrolet K10 100,000 miles, Blue

All T-birds from ’66 were equipped with versions of Ford’s FE big-block V-8 and this 1966 Thunderbird Convertible features the Thunderbird Special 390-cu.

in. V-8 with 10.5:1 compression, fed by a four-barrel Holley carburetor and rated at 315 horsepower by the factory when new. I was told this 390 is original to the car but has not independently

verified that. The engine was professionally rebuilt under previous ownership by AER Manufacturing of Carrollton, Texas. It’s said to start willingly from cold after two pumps of the accelerator and a twist of the kye. The column-shifted C-6 automatic’s change gears with no problems or alarming noises.

The Thunderbird proudly wears a new fabric top, and all the top’s hydraulic and mechanical components have been fully renewed. The factory glass, including the rear window, is reported to remain in good condition. All of the exterior lighting, including the fourth-generation Thunderbird’s signature sequential rear turn signals, function properly. This T-bird rides in Kelsey Hayes wires wheels shod with 215/75R15 all-season radials.

t features a Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor and a later-model HEI electronic distributor with a high-performance aftermarket ignition coil. This “Action Line” GMC also has the desirable “Ram’s horns”

exhaust manifolds that are known for their reduced backpressure and easy fitment within the chassis. The exhaust gasses are then plumbed into aftermarket chambered mufflers and are then sent to aluminized steel tailpipes that exit under the rear of the vehicle, behind the axle.

With a four-speed manual transmission, power enters a two-speed transfer case with manual control, providing 2-HI, 4-HI, Neutral and 4-LO, all of which are said to function properly. A full restoration of the bodywork included professional prep work and application of the original Medium Olive Metallic paint color. This hue also spreads throughout the interior and there is no sign of rust present and most of the

panels are original. The bed measures eight feet long and has been treated to a black textured sprayed-in liner. Factory bumpers and original grille and brightwork have all been refinished with a high polish and/or re-plated in chrome accordingly.

Rated at 90 horsepower when new, the 216.5-cu.

in. version of Chevrolet’s fabled OHV six is believed to be original to this car. undertook a thorough internal cleaning and flushing of the fuel system, including the tank, to guard against sedimentation. The engine is said to start immediately when the choke is pulled out, with no smoke. The

column-shifted three-speed manual transmission is described as still shifting gears properly, with no problems reported. No leaks or weeps associated with the powertrain are noted. A look beneath the clamshell hood reveals good paint on the engine block and rocker cover, with the color chipped away in only a few locations.

Some minor surface corrosion can be seen on the lower carburetor body. A copper-infused air filter is present, as is a new fuel filter. The ignition coil, associated wires and heater hoses all show as virtually new. This Special Deluxe is optioned with extras that include dual side mirrors and squarish fog lamps. Having been restored by a plating shop, all of the car’s

chrome is straight, free of pitting and in visibly very good condition. The bumpers have contrasting red channels, and the car’s nearly jewel-like emblems appear to be in excellent shape.

Bumper guards, with protective bars around the front license plate frame, are also in place. The paintwork is described as still being presentable, though with some minor scratches in places.
